In the sixth episode of our series on the national opioid crisis, Lauren Perry discusses some of the legal obligations for providers who prescribe controlled substances as treatment for substance abuse disorders.

Specific state and federal requirements will generally vary depending on the type of medication prescribed and the setting in which the treatment is dispensed and administered. This episode also covers federal legislation that expanded the ability of qualified physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants to prescribe certain controlled substances for opioid treatment.
